Zac Efron fans get ready. The former High School Musical skinny boy is set to impress in the upcoming motion picture version of the classic ‘80’s Baywatch TV series. Zach plays the role of brash new recruit Matt Brody. He plays opposite Dwayne Johnson, who takes on the role of Mitch Buchannon.
People will naturally think of Johnson as the source of eye popping muscle and striations as he reinvents the role that made David Hasselhoff iconic. It is the body of Zac, however, that is set to impress the most.
We all know that the Rock is huge. But Efron has been packing on an incredible amount of lean bulk to, just about, carry his weight alongside the former WWF pro. Zac has been getting bigger and more ripped with every new role over the past couple of years.
In 2014’s Neighbors, Zac was lean and ripped. His body matured and got bigger in films That Awkward Moment and Dirty Grandpa. But none of those appearances can prepare Efron fans for the physique that will be unleashed when Baywatch hits theaters on May 19, 2017.
This website is dedicated to uncovering every nugget of information about how Zac Efron transformed his body from a skinny kid during his Disney days back in the mid-2000’s to the epitome of rugged, lean muscularity in his early 30’s. We have gone to extraordinary lengths to uncover the precise workouts, training splits, poundages and rep ranges that Zac is using to pack on the extraordinary amount of muscle that he is displaying.
Of course, creating a body like the one that Zac is displaying on the Baywatch set is about a lot more than simply working out. The old saying that ‘abs are made in the kitchen’ is as true as ever. But muscle is also made in the kitchen. So, we’ve uncovered the precise diet and nutritional breakdowns that Zac has been using to get himself bulked up – while stripping off body fat. We will lay it all out for you:
- The day to day nutritional plan Zac followed
- The Muscle building supplements he used
- The nutritional methods he used to strip fat WHILE building muscle
- The Carb cycling program he uses to get super lean in the weeks before filming begins
Zac and The Rock: Partners in Iron
If you want to know how focused and determined Zac is in his training, all you need to do is listen to the Rock. This guy has been around the bodybuilding / weight training scene at the very highest level since he was a teenager. He knows what hard-assed quality training looks like.
Not only has the Rock been training along with Efron, he’s been pushing him to produce results that are simply outstanding. In a recent impromptu one-on-one challenge on the beach set recently, the Rock challenged Efron to a Pull Up challenge.
The rules were simple; first one to get to 100 reps was the winner. Johnson thought he had it in the bag. After all, how could any mere mortal pound out 100 reps of pull ups? Knowing that he was beyond mortal, the Rock proceeded to rep out. His first set took him to 25. He felt confident.
Looking across, however, Dwayne was surprised to see that Zac had kept pace with him, rep for rep. The same thing happened on the next set of 20 . . . and the next . . . and the next.
Looking across in bewilderment, the Rock yelled out, “What’s got into you, kid?”
In reply, Zac sai, with a smirk on his face, “Time to go down, old man.”
In the end, the Rock took it out by a single rep.
That’s right . . . Zach had pounded out 99 reps of chin ups!
Here’s what the Rock had to say about his co-star’s amazing effort on Instagram . . .
I did 100 (over hand & wide grip) pull ups and @zacefron did 99. Valiant effort from the kid, but the OG pulled thru. For now, until he dusts me in the speed round. Us #BAYWATCH lifeguards take our jobs extremely serious and we’re the best of the best. We’re also slightly f*cked up and dysfunctional.
If that little training snap shot gives you a new-found level of respect for Mr. Efron, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Click on our in-depth training and nutrition pages to find out just what it takes to build an Efron body.
Meanwhile, here are some more of the Rock’s impressions of his hard as nails co-star . . .
On a side discipline note juuuuuust wait til you see the insane shape my boy Efron got in for our movie. Proud of the hard work he put in. That’s the way you make a character “Iconic”.
And here’s the Rock’s Instagram on another classic challenge on set – this time involving some rather large tires . . .

Production for the day has ended, all the extras are going home and the sun’s going down. Me and @zacefron refuse to quit in a tire shrugging contest that lasted for hours. Why? Because we’re #BAYWATCH, we’re bad ass and we’re a slightly dysfunctional family. ✔️ On a side discipline note juuuuuust wait til you see the insane shape my boy Efron got in for our movie. Proud of the hard work he put in. That’s the way you make a character “Iconic”. I still kicked his candy ass though in this contest.
